On the morning of March 14, on the occasion of the sixth International Day of Mathematics, the Capital Normal University Association for Science and Technology and the School of Mathematical Sciences jointly hosted a themed seminar titled "Euler Number and Geometry" as part of the "Face-to-Face with Masters" science popularization series. The seminar was held in Lecture Hall 113 of the second teaching building. The main speaker Tian Gang, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and chair professor at Peking University, was invited, while Fang Fuquan, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and our university president, presided over the event. Over a hundred teachers and students attended the seminar.

Tian Gang briefly introduced the concept and development history of Euler number, systematically discussed the wide applications of Euler numbers in geometric research and modern physics research, and on this basis, highlighted their important role in the frontier research of contemporary mathematics, particularly in enumerative geometry. Tian Gang expressed earnest expectations for the faculty and students, hoping that everyone would experience the beauty and joy of mathematics more in their future studies and research. After the report, the faculty and students actively engaged in academic discussions with Professor Tian Gang on related issues.

Fang Fuquan delivered a concluding speech. He first expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Professor Tian Gang for his excellent report and encouraged the faculty and students to strive for excellence and persevere in their academic and research endeavors, widely appreciating the beauty of mathematics, science, and life.The "Face-to-Face with Masters" science popularization series activities are brand events for grassroots organization building undertaken by the Capital Normal University Association for Science and Technology under the guidance of the Beijing Association for Science and Technology. In the future, the university's association and the School of Mathematical Sciences will further leverage their advantages in the fields of discipline and education, promote science popularization work, expand scientific communication channels, and contribute to building a better home for science and technology workers.
