Professor Li Legong from the School of Life Science Is Included in the List of 2023 Highly Cited Researchers

On November 15, Clarivate Analytics, a global professional information service provider, released the list of "2023 Highly Cited Researchers". And 6,849 scientists from over 1,300 institutions in 67 countries and regions around the world were selected. Professor Li Legong from the School of Life Science of our university has been selected for his outstanding achievements in scientific research, which is also the first time that a scholar from Capital Normal University was selected.

Li Legong has been engaged in plant cell electrophysiology research for more than 30 years, with an interdisciplinary research background, and has created an ion (pA level) transmembrane transport electrophysiological detection platform with core technology, which has become the object of cooperation of many scientific research institutions at home and abroad and still maintains irreplaceable technical advantages. Li Legong's research team has been dedicated to long-term research to solve the basic scientific problems that have long been concerned in the field of botany, such as sensing and balancing plant cell water, maintaining polarized cell rhythm growth calcium fluctuations, nitrate nutrient sensing, root avoidance, and initiating pathological calcium signaling. He has presided over more than 20 surface and key projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, achieved a series of original research achievements, published more than 70 research papers, and has been consulted and cited more than 10,000 times on Google Scholar. Some of his research achievements have been selected into relevant monographs and textbooks, becoming a historical imprint of science. Li Legong led his team to win the second prize of the Ministry of Education's Outstanding Achievement Award for Scientific Research in Colleges and Universities (Science and Technology) in 2022.

Li Legong came to work at Capital Normal University in 2007 and was selected for the high-level talent program in 2009. He has been committed to imparting knowledge and educating people, and his courses have received widespread praise. He once guided undergraduates to participate in the National Biological Science Competition and won the first prize. Since 2008, he has guided more than 90 master and doctoral candidates, most of whom have become technical backbones in related industries and some of whom have become national young talents. In 2022, he was awarded the title of "Excellent Teacher in Beijing".

Li Legong is currently the editorial board member of Journal of Integrative Plant Biology (JIPB), responsible editorial board member of the Chinese Bulletin of Botany, director of the Membrane Biology Branch of the Biophysical Society of China, and director of the Beijing Overseas Talents Association. As the team leader and initiator, he is preparing to establish the Professional Committee of Bioscience Generic Technology of the Chinese Society of Biotechnology, striving to make new contributions to the bottleneck problem of supporting generic technologies in bioscience.

It is reported that Clarivate Analytics selects the list of "Highly Cited Researchers" once a year, and the scientists included in the list of "Highly Cited Researchers" have their papers cited frequently on the Web of Science™ among the top 1% in the same discipline and publication year, and the selected individuals are top scientific talents with significant and extensive influence in their research fields in universities, research institutions, and business organizations worldwide.
