On May 27, CNU’s Independent Confucius Classroom at Luxor University (Egypt) held an online council meeting, which was joined by Egyptianparticipants including President of Luxor UniversityHamdi, Dean of the College of LanguagesLeila, Dean of the College of TourismSabrin, etc., and Chinese participantsincluding Chinese Chairman of CNU’s Independent Confucius Classroom at Luxor University, standing member of the Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) in CNU and Vice President of CNU Li Xiaojuan,councilmember and Director of the CNU Confucius Institute Management OfficeWang Lihua, and Director of the Office of International Cooperation & Exchange of CNU Han Mei. The meeting was presided over by Chinese President of CNU’s Independent Confucius Classroom at Luxor University Li Shuqing.

Inhis speech at the council meeting, Hamdi highly praised the active efforts and outstanding contributions of the Independent Confucius Classroom at Luxor Universityand expressed his heartfelt gratitude for CNU’s long-term support for Luxor University and hope for further cooperation, exchanges and leap-forward development via mutual support. Li Xiaojuan congratulated the successful convening of the council meeting, hoping that both universities can work together with a common goal and explore distinctive, high-quality and sustainable school management based on Luxor University’s unique geographical location and cultural resources. Li Shuqing reported on the work of CNU’s Independent Confucius Classroom at Luxor University for the academic year 2022-2023 and the follow-up work plan. In addition, both sides had in-depth talks about future development directions and implementation plans of the Confucius Classroom, as well as future cooperation and exchanges.

This council meeting was the first one held by both universities since the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak and a key meeting to carry forward the past and plan for the future. Both sides fully communicated with each otherat the meeting. Joint efforts will be made to implement relevant measures according to the conclusions of the meeting and the actual needs of the Confucius Classroom and both sides, so as to lift the cooperation and exchanges between the two sides to a new level and promote mutual cultural learning and people-to-people exchanges between Chinese and Egyptian people.
