"Ambassadors on Diplomacy": Talk of Former Ambassador to the UK about the Influence of International Communications

On the afternoon of March 28, Liu Xiaoming, former Deputy Director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Central Committee and former Chinese Ambassador to the UK, was invited to give the 20th lecture of the "Ambassadors on Diplomacy" lecture series — Telling China's Stories and Enhancing China's International Communication Influence in the New Era —for teachers and students.

Liu Xiaoming profoundly explained, both in policy and practice, the importance and necessity of strengthening and improving international communication under the current new situation, and emphasized that to enhance China's international communication influence, it is necessary to enhance the "five consciousnesses," namely political awareness, responsibility awareness, civic awareness, struggle awareness, and awareness of big picture, and keep improving the "ten abilities," namely public diplomacy ability, political judgment ability, ability to use foreign media, ability to make friends, ability to prepare for war, research ability, communication ability, adaptability, foreign language ability and learning ability. Liu Xiaoming shared with teachers and students the experience of "Telling China's Stories" from his own work experience in the front line of diplomacy and vividly described how to make the international community "hear, understand, listen, and believe" China's stories, so that the world can see a "credible, lovely, and respectable" China.

In the interactive session, Liu Xiaoming had in-depth exchanges with teachers and students on issues such as the carrier and path of enhancing China's international communication influence, cross-cultural communications and exchanges, and the role and influence of foreign think tanks and scholars.
