CNU Won National Honorary Titles for Its Efforts to Promote Standard Spoken and Written Chinese

On May 10, the National Commendation Conference for Advanced Collectives and Advanced Individuals in Promoting Standard Spoken and Written Chinese was held in Beijing. With honorary titles “Advanced Collective” and “Advanced Individual”, CNU was invited to the grand event.

According to the  Notice of the Ministry of Education and the National Language Commission on Selecting and Commending Advanced Collectives and Advanced Individuals in Promoting Standard Spoken and Written Chinese , the Office of the CNU Language Commission competed for “Advanced Collective” and Qi Junhua competed for “Advanced Individual”. CNU won both honorary titles after the strict evaluation of the Beijing Municipal Language Commission and a leading group composed of 9 departments, including the Ministry of Education, the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC), the National Ethnic Affairs Commission and the State Language Commission. This was the first time CNU was commended by the Ministry of Education and the State Language Commission.

CNU always strives to promote standard spoken and written Chinese and serves as an important front for the publicity of standard spoken and written Chinese. To make full use of its advantageous and characteristic resources for promoting spoken and written languages and the reform and development of spoken and written language undertakings in the new era, CNU set up the CNU Spoken and Written Language Work Committee (hereinafter referred to as the “Language Work Committee”) in June 2021 with the Office of the Language Work Committee (attached to the Office of Academic Affairs). Based on the “1 axis and 3 dimensions” model which focuses on building a strong sense of community in the Chinese nation while making efforts to promote poverty alleviation by publicizing standard spoken and written Chinese, promote Chinese languages and cultures, and promote standard spoken and written language education and teaching, the Office of the Language Working Committee has made remarkable achievements in promoting standard spoken and written Chinese.

This was the first commendation event since the implementation of the  Law on Standard Spoken and Written Chinese 22 years ago. This commendation event awarded 178 organizations and 294 individuals honorary titles “Advanced Collective in Promoting Standard Spoken and Written Chinese” and “Advanced Individual in Promoting Standard Spoken and Written Chinese” respectively.
