CNU Set up 1977 Scholarship with Alumni Liu Xincheng and His Wife2021-05-10

  On the morning of April 29, Liu Xincheng, vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, former president of CNU and Class 1977 student of the Department of History of CNU, together with his wife Wang Qinrong, also Class 1977 student of the Department of History of CNU, made a special trip back to CNU and donated 10 million yuan to the education foundation of CNU to set up the 1977 Scholarship. Zheng E, Party secretary of CNU and chairman of the education foundation, Meng Fanhua, deputy Party secretary of CNU, president of CNU and vice chairman of the education foundation, and Dong Zhujuan, deputy Party secretary of CNU, attended the donation ceremony. Song Jun, director of the education foundation and director of the School Office, Yan Qing, secretary general of the education foundation and director of the Alumni Affairs Office, Zhou Jukun, director of the education foundation and director of the Student Affairs Office, Wei Jingjing, executive secretary general of the education foundation and deputy director of the Alumni Affairs Office, also joined the event. The donation ceremony was presided over by Meng Fanhua.

  In his speech, Liu Xincheng introduced the original purpose of the 1977 Scholarship. The year 1977 is an extraordinary year in the history of higher education in China. Numerous young people with academic dreams changed their fates in this year. He expressed his gratitude to the Party and the government for their forward-looking education policies and to Beijing Normal University for accepting a large number of students who were willing to study and devote themselves to the country. In his speech, he affectionately recalled the experience of studying, working and living in CNU for nearly 40 years. He hoped that the 1977 Scholarship could help young students in CNU concentrate on their study and serve the motherland and that he could promote CNU’s talent cultivation.

  Later, the two alumni and Zheng E jointly signed the donation agreement for the 1977 Scholarship. Zheng E and Meng Fanhua presented the donation certificate and the CNU Education Contribution Award to the two alumni.
