On May 29, a forum was held at CNU to improve aesthetics teaching and the aesthetic and ethical qualities of students. Among those who attended the forum were Wan Lijun, deputy inspector of Physical, Health and Art Section of Ministry of Education; Jun Wang, director of Physical, Health and Art Section of the Education Board of Beijing, Zheng E, secretary of the Party Committee of CNU; Meng Fanhua, Vice President of CNU and some other directors and administrators of the university. The forum was chaired by Vice President Meng.

At the forum, briefings were made by administrators at related departments (sections), and institutes (departments), on the training of artistic talents and the development of aesthetics education of the students. Information was filled in regarding the program of the CNU’s involvement of the Education Board of Beijing “in support of the characteristic art construction of primary schools by institutions of higher learning” like that of 5 primary schools in their art education; and reports were made in terms of the popularization of aesthetic education and encouragement of extra curriculum activities based on the characteristics of the students.

 At the forum, Director Wang made a brief account of the reform of are and physical education in Beijing and made the demands of precise definition, meticulous training and wonderful presentation in support of characteristic art construction of primary schools by institutions of higher learning like CNU. Wan Lijun, the deputy inspector, made a sound analysis of the problems in the present aesthetic education in such aspects as social awareness, value orientation, and ethical qualities. She expected CNU to achieve greater success in training excellent teachers of art and creating more influential works of culture and art under the national new norm of economic development by meeting the challenges from all over the nation instead of Beijing in its efforts to raise the quality of talents and moral principles of the students.

 President Zheng made three requirements as follows: first and foremost, a more comprehensive knowledge of aesthetic education in necessary at a higher level; secondly, a sense of duty and responsibility is necessary in a positive role play by looking into the special features of academic majors’ construction to focus on the needs of the country to train more qualifies talents; thirdly and lastly, a lending foresight is necessary in meeting the needs of the education of the nation as well as the capital.
