On April 13, a signature event was held at Hiroshima University on the Agreement to build a United Institute of Graduate Students by CNU and Hiroshima University. President Gong Huili and Ochi, President of Hiroshima University signed a joint agreement on the building of a United Institute of Graduate Students. Officials such as Bai Gang, Minister-Counselor of Embassy of the PRC in Japan and Li Chunsheng, Counselor of Consulate-General of the PRC in Osaka attended the ceremony.


The United Institute of Graduate Students aims at building an internally joint platform to train graduate students from both universities. The arts majors will be lectured in Japanese while the sciences and engineering majors in English. Graduate students from CNU can opt to get into the program of 2+1 or 1+1+1 for double degrees. Successively, they can get master’s degrees from both universities, eg. double degree, by studying at CNU and Hiroshima University. The programs to jointly train doctoral graduate students will be carried out at such trial institutions as the Institute of Resources and Environment and Institute for Tourism Studies. They can opt to be admitted into Hiroshima University for their doctorates. Most of the students on these programs will have their tuitions cut in half and financial support from CNU, while some of them will have the opportunity to get scholarships from Hiroshima University.
