Teaching Programs for Undergraduates of Chinese specialty

I.Teaching objective
The specialty is fit for foreigners whose mother tongue is not Chinese or Chinese immigrants or overseas Chinese, who are required to be College graduates or more (including high school graduates).

II.Cultivation goal
This specialty aims to cultivate Chinese specialized personnel who meets the needs of modern international community, possesses good overall qualities, and develops in an all-round way.The details are as follows:

  1. Possess sturdy Chinese speaking ability and speech communication ability;
  2. Grasp systematic Chinese basic theory and elementary knowledge;
  3. Grasp basic Chinese humane knowledge, and are familiar with China¨s actual conditions and social culture;
  4. Grasp the basic method of document indexing, information enquiry, and possess the preliminary scientific research and hands-on background.

III.Content of courses

  1. Teaching for Chinese speech skillsThe students should combine exhibition and transference of the key elements of Chinese speech and  relevant cultural issues and language knowledge, train special skill on listening ,speaking, reading and writing and comprehensive skills, improve Chinese speech ability and speech communication ability progressively .In order to widen the professional direction, strengthen the content of the respect of specialized Chinese (such as Chinese for Economic and Trade) progressively.
  2. Teaching for Chinese knowledgeTeach students Chinese knowledge, including Chinese pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, figure of speech, Chinese characters and linguistics rudimentary knowledge, and make them possess the Chinese theory knowledge with intact system.
  3. Teaching of China's humane knowledge and teaching of knowledge relative to professional directionTeach students the basic content of China's humane knowledge (including literature, culture, philosophy, history, geography etc of contemporary China and China), and make students familiar with China's actual conditions, know China's social culture, possess basic China's humane knowledge.
  4. Such teaching of the respect as the Chinese information processing of the computer, etc.

IV.Specialty direction
This specialty has two directions: Chinese, Economics and Trade.

V.Teaching arrangementThis specialty needs four years on campus, eight semesters, about 2800 periods and 175 credits (take the class periods per week of each course as the main basis).Besides classroom instruction, students should have the language practice activity of a certain amount. Students should work hard at their theses before graduating (not less than 50OO words), and explain their arguments orally before tutors.Students complete the courses required by the specialty teaching programs, and pass the examination, obtain the credits stipulated; and their theses approved; pass the corresponding grade of HSK of China or the university, are permitted to graduate from school, and are awarded diploma of Chinese. Bachelor's Degree shall be conferred when they accord with the Regulations of the People's Republic of China on the Granting of academic Degrees and are approved by the Academic Degrees Committee of the university.

VI.Teaching principles

  1. Because Chinese teaching of this specially belongs to Outward Chinese language teaching, its teaching activity must be distinguished from Chinese teaching as mother tongue and linguistics teaching. Emphasize the training of basic skill of language and cultivation of speech communication ability.
  2. Teaching for language skills should carry out the principle of practicalness, phatic and fine teaching-more practice.  Deal with the following relation correctly: the relation between listening, speaking, reading and writing, the relation between the key elements of the speech and speech skills, the relation between language and culture, the relation between teaching and practice.
  3. Teaching of speculative knowledge should follow the knowledge system of this discipline, and pay attention to student's acceptability to language and culture, should adopt heuristic, discussing teaching methods.
  4. Teaching of Chinese cultural knowledge should pay attention to introducing Chinese nation's outstanding culture, contribute to student's understanding China; Meanwhile, should pay attention to respecting students' national culture of mother tongue.
  5. All teaching should be teacher-leading-part and student-main-part, and fully arouse students' study enthusiasm. The teaching should progress step by step, from easy to hard, and teachers should pay attention to exert students' learning ability and creativity.
  6. Organize the classes in Chinese; reduce the use of the media language to the minimum limit.
  7. Fully utilize modern teaching technology and means, such as recording, video, film, multimedia, computer, Internet, etc., to improve the teaching result.
